How do you know it's time to quit your job and become a Full Time Content Creator

Working a 9 to 5 job can become monotonous and draining when the passion for your career starts to diminish. For food bloggers and content creators, this could be the perfect time to switch to full time creating food content. With the rise of social media platforms, the food industry has seen a surge in appetizing content that’s sure to tickle your taste buds. But what should you consider before quitting your 9 to 5 job to become a full time food content creator? Below are some points that should be considered to help you make the right decision.

Financial Stability

The first and foremost thing to consider before quitting your 9 to 5 job is your financial stability. Before investing all your time and resources into making a living as a food content creator, consider your financial situations and plans. How long will your savings last? Can you find ways to supplement your income while establishing yourself as a full time food content creator? All these questions should be answered before making the jump! Often I recommend my private 1:1 clients to have 3 months of living income available and work part time in a secure job while transitioning to help you feel confident and adequately supported along the way.

Skill Level

The second factor to consider would be the potential of your content. Being able to make delicious food content is one thing, but you must also be able to monetize your content and convert it into a steady source of income. When you look at food content creators on social media platforms, you may find yourself comparing yourself with the ones who have reached the peak of the game. But remember, it takes time and dedication to reach those heights and you should instead focus on what you need to do to achieve the same. If you struggle with taking the leap, I highly recommend you register in our 5-figure brand partnership course! Many of my students go from being part time hobby content creators to quitting their 9-to-5 jobs and becoming full time freelancers working with their fave brands!

Network and Collaborate to Build Skills and Relationships

Thirdly, look for opportunities to collaborate with other content creators. Try and work with chefs, lifestyle bloggers and other content creators who can provide exposure to your work and also open you up to new opportunities. Working as a team on campaigns, sharing ideas, and creating content that’s even more mouth-watering can help you take your passionate food journey a step further and create something incredible.

Don’t Give Up

Fourthly, stay organized and consistent and be mindful of the work you’re putting into your content. If recipes don’t go according to plan or the photoshoot doesn’t turn out how you envisioned it, don’t give up and start doubting yourself. Staying consistent is key to gaining followers and being able to make a living out of being a full time food content creator.

Make a Pros and Cons List - But Ultimately Listen to your Gut!

Finally, weigh all the pros and cons before making your decision. Think about the joys and satisfactions that come with creating food content and the lifestyle you could have when you achieve success. It's not always going to be easy, for those who have never worked freelance before, I recommend working a stable job part time while transitioning to your dream content creation career. Listen to your gut, excited anticipation is good but nerves and anxiety isn’t.

Making the decision to quit your 9 to 5 job and become a full time food content creator is a huge step, so always look before you leap. Keeping the above points in mind can help you make the right decision for yourself and your future as a food content creator.
